The hardest part of anything is starting. Always.
The lead, the introduction, the opening remarks, the overture, the first post.
Why is that?
I think it's because you're only working with sparks. The flame isn't roaring yet.
I've found that those first sparks are the pieces to greatest pieces of our lives. Everything starts as an idea. Everything starts as a spark.
I think my first spark to something big came to me in Physics Class, my senior year of high school.
"I hate math."
Seems like a simple, normal high school thought right?
It was followed by "I can't stand sitting in a room, not being creative, for an hour. How could I possibly do this all my life? I want to help people" With that thought, I threw away my plan of being an engineer and began to rethink my future.
My name is Amanda, but only my mother calls me that. I prefer to be called Mandy. I like to make things.
Weird thing to say right? It'll make sense in a minute.
I grew up in a military family. We knew routines, methods and hard work. But I was always a little different. I could do everything expected of me; I was always very smart. I went to something called the Southern California Math Olympics for a few years. I read calculus books in 5th grade. I worked in a library instead of going to recess.
So basically: I'm a nerd.
Then in sixth grade, I joined band. And I found the joy of making things.
I made music! Terrible music, but I was making sounds with my own hands. It was the greatest thing to happen to me.
This love grew and grew up until that fateful day in Physics Class. And then it blossomed into a plan and a future.
Fast-forward:
I now feed my addiction to making things. I just finished my Associate's Degree in Mass Media and work in radio. I start Penn State in a few days to pursue my Strategic Communications degree. I'm a full-time student and work a full-time job, but I'd do even more if I could. Because I'm making things.
I'm constantly playing with sparks. And I love every second.
This blog will be about those sparks. Mostly school related posts, because hey, I'm a student. But I will add things that students like myself find interesting.
Don't worry. If you look at the tags section, you can find specific posts. If you want simply school, go to the school sparks tag. If you want to see what struck my creative fancy, hit that creative sparks tag.
You get the point, right?
I'm teaching myself how to do this, so feedback is welcomed and wanted. Check out my main site for the lowdown on everything about me.
